Remember Sex Ed in Junior High & High School?

Remember Sex Ed in Junior High & High School? When I had those classes, admittedly long ago, there was Gonorrhea and Syphilis. Boy! Times have changed. There are so many more now. Some can be deadly; some are incurable, sticking around for life. Even gonorrhea and syphilis have changed since there are now resistant strains.
In the privacy of the counseling room, we have chance to talk to girls about the risks of S.T.D.’s. Hanging on the wall in each counseling room, we have a sexual exposure poster. This chart gives a visual of what C. Everett Koop, M.D., former U.S. Surgeon General says, “When you have sex with someone, you are having sex with everyone they have had sex with for the last 10 years, and everyone they and their partners have had sex with for the last 10 years.” Also at our disposal we have an entire notebook showing signs and symptoms of the many STDs. These even have some pretty graphic pictures. None of this is meant to scare but to inform. Encouraging them to make better choices.
