Part Two of “A further look at the imago Dei…WHAT DOES GOD SAY...”

God further pronounces judgment even upon the land when innocent human blood is shed and left unatoned. He makes it clear that because God Himself is dwelling with His people, they must not defile the land with man’s blood.
“So you shall not pollute the land in which you are; for blood pollutes the land and no expiation can be made for the land for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it. You shall not defile the land in which you live, in the midst of which I dwell; for I the LORD am dwelling in the midst of the sons of Israel.” (Numbers 35:33-34)
The Apostle Paul refers to the authority vested by God in the civil government to protect life and property and to nurture peaceful society. [See Romans 13:3-4.] And Jesus affirms this God-given ‘power of the sword’ in Matthew 26:52.
But what of the nation who has lost its fear of God? What of the nation whose government and highest court has enshrined in law the destruction of innocent lives, from the tiniest babies in the womb to the aged or disabled? I shudder to think of what this portends for us in the United States of America.
May God have mercy and grant full, humble repentance, faith, salvation, and healing! And may it begin with us in His Church. By His grace and strength, we can be the loving hands and feet of Jesus as we offer the life-giving Gospel and help meet the needs of hurting men, women, and children.
